Connect dry contact relays and aftermarket smart garage door controller to Security+ 3.0 LiftMaster, Chamberlain or Craftsman opener with white “learn” button.

Most of the garage door openers work with a wired doorbell-type buttons that momentarily connect the two wires. This makes it easy to interface them with the smart garage door controllers such as Garadget and other home automation relay modules. A small number of LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Craftsman openers use a proprietary communication protocol and do not support a simple button control. It is however still possible to control them externally by using a native remote as an adapter. This adapter utilizes a native LiftMaster 041-0489-000 wired wall controller (user manual).

Installation:

• Confirm that the opener features white “learn” button.
• Decide on the installation location, the adapter button does not have to be accessible by the homeowner so it can be located where it is convenient for the installation between the door opener and the relay module. If there is any additional distance involved, then extend the length of the wire on the red/white wires side. The bronze-colored wires should not be extended beyond the supplied length.
• Keep bronze-colored wires separate and unconnected. Connect red and white wires to the corresponding terminals in the garage door opener. Wires from the existing wall button should also remain connected. For reliable connection you may need to twist the wires from adapter with the existing wires. Steady yellow light under the main button of the adapter indicates that it receives power.
• Follow the pairing procedure described in the user manual of the button and ensure that it operates the door. The existing wall button should also continue to work.
• Make sure the control device uses isolated normally open momentary dry contacts and not electronic switching component such as transistors, solid state relay etc.
• Connect two remaining bronze wires to relay’s contacts. The polarity of this connection is not important. If using with Garadget for Control4 then plug a short piece of included solid core in controller’s terminals and transition the softer bronze wire on the other end.
• Use app or command controlling your dry contact device to test the remote operation.

Compatibility Notes:

This adapter only works with Liftmaster, Chamberlain or Craftsman openers featuring white learn button. If in doubt, lookup the manual for the model of the opener you are interfacing and confirm that it specifically mentions compatibility with Security+ 3.0 accessories. For openers with yellow learn button use Security+ 2.0 adapters available in store.
