Wirelessly connect dry contact relays and aftermarket smart garage door controller to Security+ 3.0 LiftMaster, Chamberlain or Craftsman opener with white “learn” button.

Most of the garage door openers work with a wired doorbell-type buttons that momentarily connect the two wires. This makes it easy to interface them with the smart garage door controllers such as Garadget (see how it works). A small number of LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Craftsman openers use a proprietary communication protocol and do not support a simple button control. It is however still possible to control them externally by using a native remote as an adapter.

We offer a wired Security+ 3.0 adapter, but sometimes the controller is too far from garage door opener making wiring impractical or opener’s bus is already heavily loaded and adding another wired controller makes opener act erratically. This adapter utilizes a native L993S wireless controller and allows independent control of up to 3 garage door openers from multiple co-located dry contact relays.

Installation:

• Confirm that all the openers you are interfacing feature white “learn” button.
• Keep bronze-colored wires unconnected, follow the standard pairing instructions (see video below) for associating the buttons of the wireless remote with up to three garage door openers.
• Test the buttons on the remote and ensure that it operate the doors. The existing wall buttons and remotes should also continue to work.
• Determine the installation location. The adapter button does not have to be accessible by the homeowner, and it should be located next to the relay module. The bronze-colored wires should not be extended beyond the supplied length.
• Make sure the control device uses isolated normally open momentary dry contacts and not electronic switching component such as transistors, solid state relay etc.
• Connect two bronze-colored wires to normally open momentary dry contacts of your garage door controller. The polarity of this connection is not important.
• Use app or command controlling your dry contact device to test the remote operation.

Compatibility Notes

This adapter only works with Liftmaster, Chamberlain or Craftsman openers featuring white learn button. If in doubt, lookup the manual for the model of the opener you are interfacing and confirm that it specifically mentions compatibility with Security+ 3.0 accessories. For openers with yellow learn button use Security+ 2.0 adapters available in store.
